The OpenIGTLINK is a commonly used communications standard that features in many image guided therapy applications. The standard facilitates the robust transmission and reception of medical data over a computer network. More information regarding the standard can be viewed on the OpenIGTLink homepage (http://openigtlink.org/).

3DSlicer (https://www.slicer.org/) and MITK (http://mitk.org/wiki/MITK) are medical imaging toolkits that integrate the OpenIGTLink standard. In this work 3D Slicer is used to effectively visualise the position of the Anser system in a 3D environment.
